That’s not fair

Yesterday some of my girls came over for a film day. After watching some vampire movie with awful 80’s special effects, they started firing all sorts of questions at me about Islam. Whoa. Wasn’t expecting that. One girl explained to me that Islam makes sense to her because it’s very just. Tit for tat. You slap me, I slap you back (then apparently it’s easier to forgive because then you have the anger out of your system-that was her explanation). Her Muslim friend also asked her where in the Bible it says Jesus is the Son of God. She wasn’t able to answer. [Jn 1:1] Hm.

She also stated that it doesn’t seem fair that ONE MAN had to die for everyone. Well, no, it doesn’t seem fair. But that was the only way that could work. It is the plan that was in place before the beginning of time. It had to be Jesus, because we couldn’t do it for ourselves. Unlike Muslims who believe they earn their way to God by DOING works [the foundation of most religions], we can’t DO anything to bridge the gap between us and God. We need the Mediator. We need Jesus, the perfect Son of God. He brings us relief…we can stop trying to inch our way closer to God by doing good things. It’s all very backwards to our culture and society. But that’s why it works.

So, today I am thankful that God functions outside our idea of what is fair. I’m glad that He is just, even though often I don’t understand how. I know He can’t lie [Heb 6:18] so the best thing for me to do is keep trusting.

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

Hebrews 1:1-3

Peace to you in the Name of the one who is the exact imprint of God’s nature, who holds the universe together, and who covered our sins with His own blood.
